SO LONG

I once knew a very successful "old time" painting contractor with a reputation for being trifling, nitpicking and demanding, but he always got the best work from his crew. Being young and foolish at the time, I noted his financial success and asked him why he bothered to work along side his crew every day, in fact why did he show up at the job site at all.
Without missing a stroke he said "It's not about the money, it's the work, hell son, it's always been about the work."
Over the years I have come to find greater meaning in that simple truth, it has truly always been about the work.

It is time to say goodbye, I hope that this little book has provided you with some useful information, and I wish you well in your future painting projects.
Be sure to include patience, a bit of tenacity and self control in your project plans and the rewards can be quite satisfying

PAINT TYPES explained

For residential purposes there are basically  two types of finish paint.

Water based "latex" and "oil" based  alkyd paints.
The term "latex" is commonly used to describe water based paints, but there is absolutely no natural latex in the paint. Most contain Acrylic binders or other types of binders, Fillers to add Opaqueness and body, and Color mixed into a water base.

Some paints  labeled as  100% Acrylic "latex" contain only the acrylic binders and are thought to be superior in quality to those that use other types of binders.
Acrylics are durable ( after curing, usually 7 days) and will not "yellow" over time.
Water thinning and clean up.

Alkyd based paints are often referred to as "oil" based paints. "Alkyd" is a synthetic linseed oil that is used as the binder in oil based paints. These paints are actually solvent petroleum based and contain the Alkyd binder, Ingredients to add Opaqueness, Color and Solvent .
Alkyds are very durable but will "yellow" over time and in the absence of light.
Petroleum solvents are required for thinning and clean up.
