Just in case any of y'all are making pork ribs today, here's a little something from me to you:

JARED'S FAMOUS RIB SAUCE:

2 Parts bottled BBQ sauce - KRAFT'S TRADITIONAL FLAVOR IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
2 Parts warm water
1 Part Duck Sauce (yep, the stuff you dip your eggroll in at the chinese restaurant)
1 shot liquid smoke
Garlic & onion powder
Ground black, white and cayenne pepper (to taste)

Simmer BBQ sauce, duck sauce, and warm water.  When heated, stir in garlic/onlion powder, peppers, & liquid smoke.  Continue to simmer (with lid on the saucepan so it doesn't thicken up too much) for an hour or 2 on the LOWEST BURNER SETTING - this process will "mellow" the bite of the pepper.

Quantities will depend on how many racks you are making.  For 10 lbs of ribs (about 5-6 racks) I usually use 3-4 bottles of BBQ sauce.

Trust me, this sauce is SOOOO much better than using straight BBQ sauce that you'll never be able to put bottled sauce directly on your ribs again.  ;)

Have a great Memorial Day off, folks!

Yep, lets not forget those that are serving, or have served and sacrificed in the past to allow us to eat kick-ass BBQ ribs freely.

I got lucky, my buddy wanted some corn-on-the-bone, so we went to Gramma's and got hooked up.

A SOLDIER DIED TODAY

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he had fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his Legion buddies listened
For they knew whereof he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For old Bill has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a soldier died today.

He will not be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary
And quite uneventful life.

Held a job and raised a family,
Quietly going on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
though a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell their whole life stories
From the time that they were young,
But the passing of a soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
A guy who breaks his promises
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow who,
In times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his Country
And offers up his life?

A politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are sometimes disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps, a pension small.

It's so easy to forget them,
For it was so long ago,
That the old Bills of our country
Went to battle, but we know

It was not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our Country now enjoys

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you want a politician
With his ever-shifting stand?

Or would you prefer a soldier,
Who has sworn to defend,
His home, his kin and Country
And would fight until the end?

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
Then we find the Soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline
in a paper that would say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Thanks for the poem. I hope many read it & are brought to tears as I was. Made me think of my brother-in-law who passed away a year ago. They are all unsung hero's.

I found it at Vons with all the other asian sauces, had to look a bit to find it, the bottles are kind of small.  (If the store is well organized, it should sit right next to the Plum Sauce - they are actually quite similar.)  Or if you are near a city you can find it at any good asian food market.  Or ask at your local chinese restaurant if you can buy pints or quarts from them, as a last resort.

I hope all had a great long weekend.  I was lucky enough to be able to cook ribs for some marines yesterday.  Was a great way to spend memorial day.

I found the Duck Sauce at Save Mart decided recently to get back to better eating so got stir fry veggies and had some chicken boilded up already , stir fried veggies in chicken stock added one of my favorite Spicy terriyaki sauce by J*E*S its in the same asian section, then added chicken and then added 2 tblsp of Duck Sauce.

VERY TASTY love the sweet flavor of the duck sauce added a nice flavor to the whole meal Thanks Jared still going to try your recipe
