What's Your Favorite Stain for Fences?
« on: June 19, 2007, 07:44:53 PM »
I'm about to stain my 6 foot privacy fence and was wondering if anyone has a stain that they want to brag about. Looking for longevity mainly. Plan on moving next spring so I need something that will last till time to sell the house. Thanks for the advice

I would use Sikkens Cetol.
1 coat of Cetol 1 followed by 2 coats of Cetol 23.
Its over $60 a gallon but its beautiful and should hold up for at least 5 years when it will require a single top coat of Cetol 23.
I use a lot of Sikkens Cetol. I find it is the most durable and beautiful product for any wood surface. Sikkens also sells a range of other products but they don't have the high build, durability or beauty of the flagship Cetol.

Following up on Cetol. You should not spray this product. Years ago Sikkens printed this on the cans, do not spray, then they got away from that. I have seen projects that were sprayed and a few of them started to peel like a sundburn on your arm. I ONLY BRUSH SIKKENS.

Cabots. It has proven its worth to me here in East Central Illinois.
