Aura paint
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:07:55 PM »
Any one with Aura paint experience,

Will it truly cover in two coats? White over red?

here's a thread which discusses Aura in some depth.

Using Aura in my own home to redecorate. One great product. I don't see a need for other wall paint products. Unless you're seeking less expensive paints. Our decorators are only authorized to demonstrate/offer Aura on every remodel/repaint.

The dark colors are magnificent! Two coat coverage on everything thus far and no primer. I'm loving it!

One wall was striped with brown and blue stripes. Two coats of Tearoom and those stripes are gone forever.

I recommend using the BM Ultra Weave roller cover.

Danny,
I don't remember seeing anything about one of your questions
Quote
White over red?
and I haven't had the opportunity to use a white over a red yet and especially with one of the affinity reds.

I do know I have used it now for the first time over flat builders paint (and this was without priming first) and was impressed with the results.  I was a little skeptical at first and was a little afraid going this route, but the affinity color worked out great.  I use more of the eggshell finish and the satin is great for trim/doors.

I had a discussion with a BM dude, and they are trying to develop a real trim enamel like the waterborn Impervo, but that uses the Aura's technology.  Not there yet, but it's coming.

? do we put the e on waterbornE even if we're not British?
Just wondering...lol  ;D

Those of us that are British won't be offended BrushJ. It's probably another bit of leftover French spelling from when they ruled us way back when. You lot seem quite happy to leave out the U in colour which seems pretty sensible to me anyway. Sometimes I spell it the US way other times the way I learned it. The same with 'check', which is 'cheque' back home. Then of course there's 'queue' which the US has just totally ignored in preference of 'line'. Ha!  :)

brush, Ive always just used waterborne with the (e);  never thought anything about it;

yeah, some time back my Ben Moore dealer mentioned they are working on some semi gloss in the aura line, but did say it would be awhile and also said eventually all of the regal line would be converted over to the same colorants as in the affinity line;  mentioned this would take awhile as well because of all the expense with the new colorants and machines.

I don't think Aura in it's present form is meant to be a woodwork enamel. That is what Waterborne Satin Impervo is about. They will be making an enamel with the acrylic tints, but Aura isn't it.

brush jockey.....thanks for the feedback...it seems my paint store needs to get up to speed on the aura product...they know that i specialize in window restoration and knew that i would be using it on wood...

guess i'm from the old school...i don't trust a 'self priming, one coat' product....

sorry folks, i can't figure out how to attach it, so, AF-290 Caliente can be seen here: http://www.myperfectcolor.com/Benjamin-Moore-Aura-AF-290-Caliente-p/mpc98078.htm

Danny ...
3 coats of that kind of red is pretty good, imo  ...

even w/ BM's ceramic matte, i'd take a good guess that it would be 4 or 5, perhaps with a deep tone underbody making it a 5 to 6 coat job (nice color, btw)   ...
i've had great success w/ the deep tone reds and yellows in Aura covering w/ 2 to 3 coats...

but, as noted by jade and that fella in the Sopwith Camel (or is it a Fokker?) :), Aura has serious coverage problems in their lite to medium white enamels.. for a nice waterborne enamel, try Muralo's Satin Flow....

Be Well
