First job of '09
« on: January 02, 2009, 09:07:44 PM »
Well, I actually started this job on Monday, but the bulk of it will be done in '09. At least I got the first post here in the new year!

I have been hired to remove some murals another hanger botched, and install new ones.
Here are some of the bad ones:

Bad seam:

Another bad seam; you can see they tried to touch it up with markers at the bottom:

Left paste everywhere, sloppy sloppy!

On Monday, we removed 2 of them, sanded the walls with a vacuum sander, and primed with Gardz.

The first one I installed was tricky as it had a black background which will show the seam very easily if I don't cut carefully and true.

The rest of the mural was mostly just subtle shades of green so it was tough to find the match.

I used extra-keen blue single edge blades to bust the seam.

I was seriously nervous about that black seam looking good. The folks that hired me made me hang that one first, probably to see if I could do it right or not. They were impressed with my end result, that took the heat off me for a bit. Here are a couple close-ups of that seam:

Know how to fill up a 5'er from a shallow sink? My lovely assistant Beth demonstrates with the core from the mural packaging:

The second mural was much easier to match due to the bold graphics, but I had to trim it tight around several immovable objects, like a fire alarm, and a keypad.

Great work ProWall.

Vin, with the economy like it is now days we are all having to lower our prices. That is everybody but the electric companies, phone companies & insurance is going out of sight. Sure hope things lighten up soon. Everybody is cutting corners now days, going for cheaper not quality.

Ext. murals are great if the painter uses the correct paint. For the substrate.
