Aluminum siding and fascia
« on: April 28, 2010, 07:24:18 AM »
I have a small amount of aluminum siding and fascia to paint.  It doesnt appear to have ever been painted, just factory finish. I washed it and a TON of oxidation came off. No bare spots, do I need to prime this?  Due to location I can not spray and it is small and broke up so I was going to brush it on, will I be able to brush all this and not have brush marks?  Any other tips or anything Im overlooking?   Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

I always prime(makes for better topcoat bond imo) followed by 1-2 coats of paint. Definitely 2 coats
on the heavy weather sides(here in East Central Illinois that means the South & NorthWest sides).
I usually roll  then brush the undersides of the siding. I'd say rolling is the best if you have a larger area, sq foot wise, to paint. Just don't lay it on super thick & if you do, brush it out.
