Update on original post. I did a test panel with a large piece of drywall. Hung the brown paper liner with Roman 880.......dried perfectly flat and even. Hung the wallcovering the next day with the same 880 right over the unprimed, unsized liner..........dried perfectly smooth and flat, no blistering or staining at all. Went ahead and hung the entire bathroom with the same Roman 880 for the liner and top layer and it turned out great. No problems at all, no blisters, no staining, dried smooth and flat, seams got very tight. Like I mentioned before I have been using 880 for at least 15 years as my "everyday" paste and rarely if ever had any trouble with it. I have hung custom hand printed foils, hand printed papers and pre pasted and paper backed vinyls with it. I was concerned by the instructions that were provided with the wallcovering, and the fact that they recommended PVA adhesive had me confused. Im so glad I didnt try the PVA. Before I tried the test panel I re- read the insructions anf they did mention using light or medium duty clear paste, so thats another reason why I wasnt afraid to try the 880. Also, there really arent too many choices in my area ........Its either Roman Adhesives or Muralo Adhesium, thats about it. I havent seen wheat paste, cellulose or clay based adhesives for years in the paint stores around here. The only hassle that I had with the wallcovering was that it was a 30" repeat, drop match............fun stuff in a bathroom with all sorts of obstacles and corners
