Dark finished wood w/ white powder
« on: September 30, 2017, 05:28:44 AM »
Hello All,

I am new to this forum and I signed up because I am facing this very strange issue with my closet. I had custom made closets put in my house, and the first time around the painter who finished the wood was inexperienced so not only were the colours not uniform but i noticed a weird white dusting on the doors that is not like real dust, and every time I would wipe it off, it would come back in a few days. When i confronted the business that did them for me, he said "oh its the humidity" which I didn't understand because it is not like blushing wood where the moisture is trapped under, its something you can wipe off but then comes back!

They eventually repainted it, but while most of that is gone now, they seem to have missed a few spots here and there and it is very frustrating since I just noticed it after I moved my clothes and everything. I first thought it may be wood chalking, but the fact that the wood is a very shiny dark finish and the dust is very white, I am inclined to think it is not.

Any idea what this issue is? is there any way to fix it? and more importantly is it in any way dangerous to keep having this powder build up? I mean for breathing and such?

Thank you!!

I am inserting pictures of the wood and a couple pictures showing the issue, I ran my finger through the dust so that you can see what I'm talking about. It is not normal dust, its a strange build up.
