Arborcoat Issues - Stains from standing water
« on: August 07, 2013, 07:58:43 PM »
Hello,
I've been stripping and staining decks for a few years now with success and lots of fun.  I have experience with Sikkens, Sansin, and Para Stains and this summer I've been using a ton of Arborcoat.  I have had a recurring problem with rain water staining the finished 2 coat (semi-trans + clearcoat) and the Translucent. Standard prep includes a BM remove, brighten, sanding (all surfaces), blow off debris... stain/clearcoat. Never in direct sunlight, never over 27C, moisture reading of wood under 15% at MAX when finish coat is applied, with expected 48-72 hours without rain after application, 3 hours minimum until clearcoat applied.  I am not having any issues in the first couple of years with the other products mentioned.
Water beads up on these products and is leaving the stains you see in the pictures (looks even worse in person!).  This is immediate and occurs every rainfall.  The other stains mentioned still allow the water to 'soak' through the surfaces and evaporate more quickly.  After it rains, the water could sit for more than a day without direct sunlight.  I'm wondering if this is  common issue with the product or there is some oversight on my part and am looking to problem solve!!
Happy painting :)

have you tried removing the stains using soap and water with a scrub brush?....yeah, with wood, stay away from the membrane coating on traffic sufaces
I don't do this for a hobby and I'm damn sure I don't need the practice
