I am new at bidding on interior and exterior painting.  Can anyone give me good advice on this?

Nothing like trial and error. I've seen so many different ways that contractors calculate an estimate and there's no one best way...I use different formulas based on the customer and the job...In many cases T&M is the only way I'll approach certain projects, while your basic residential repaint (minimal prep and the previous coating is reasonably sound) is a simple price-per-square-foot equation...As you do more estimating you get a feel for the art. It's a crapshoot for the first year and it's easy to underestimate until you know the ropes.

There are estimating software programs out there that are fairly convenient, but they can miss the details.

One thing that I never slack on is measuring; Measure EVERYTHING, as you can easily nickle-and-dime yourself right out of a profit by missing the small stuff...

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess I will wade through it and learn as I go.  Appreciate it.
