Title: airless or air assist
Post by: cdownen1 on September 29, 2006, 12:43:28 AM
We've been spraying interior trim with acrylic for five years with an airless.  I've had excellent results except for spitting but that can be overcome.  My boss bought an air assist airless and it is great as far as over spray and spitting (it works like an HVLP).  I don't like the finish.  It doesn't seem smooth like glass or a car.  It's suppose to be the ticket.  The paint has to be thinned and I wonder if the water or air is affecting the finish.  At the same time I get a perfect finish on a metal door with the HVLP.  Am I setting this machine up wrong or is it just not going to beat an airless?

Hi cdownen1,

Your problem seems to be atomization and leveling. Try going to a finer tip, and use "XIM" or "Floetrol" in addition to reducing the paint.

Best of Luck
