Title: Drylok Extreme latex vs. oil redux
Post by: MiTm on February 06, 2007, 08:21:58 PM
OK folks...had this one up with no takers. Surely someone has used these products? I have used Quikcrete sealer, but not in this application. Going once, going twice....(job is in a couple days...)

thanks all,

mark

I have used the standard water based Drylok on interior concrete block basement walls with great results, I have never used the oil based product or the Extreme latex. I assume the only real difference in the latex is the ceramic ingredient. The application of any block waterproofer usually requires more product than is listed on the can, and it can be a beast to apply on dry blocks, misting the blocks with H2O before app. does help...
We are talking about raw concrete blocks... right?

Rmichael: No, repaint...Exterior had leakage problems. That was fixed(owner hopes). The result on the interior was 5 courses of peeled/peeling paint. I want to seal the block before I apply the paint.
Should I put on Drylok, prime and paint, or Drylok and paint, or just Drylok(with tint)?

thanks,

Mark,
Hmmmm, The Drylok is only guaranteed to water proof unpainted or stripped surfaces. I would do a careful prep to remove any loose or failing paint, then apply a full coat of tinted Drylok

rmichael:
Will not be any problem ...it has peeled away in large strips. I can see the bare block.
