Title: The $50 paint job "myth"
Post by: Barry on June 28, 2011, 12:47:28 AM
Anyone priced out autobody paint jobs or touch up work for their paint wagons lately?  Check these links out.  I am totally stunned by the quality of this work.  I never knew I could even attempt to do this, let alone have it turn out so well.  I've now seen a few YouTube videos on the topic too.  Think about the money saved with this method!! After all, we are painters...

I painted a buddies truck once with quick dry industrial enamel once. It looked good for a while but would chip off easy with any stone chip or door ding. It dried too hard and wouldn't flex when the metal did. It cost us about $90 for paint and a days labour for 2 guys.  I watched some of these videos and think the time they are spending on prep they should spend another $300 on real auto paint.  I've sprayed it on a couple of jobs and don't find it much different than lacquer. BUT I haven't tried the waterborne products yet. Kinda scared too. ::)
