Sprayer related questions
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:31:26 PM »
Hi All!

I have a few questions regarding sprayers, that I could definately use some professional advice on. I just bought a Titan xl295 airless paint sprayer, which is more of a DIY model. I have a couple of questions regarding the sprayer tips.

1.  Its comes with a 515 tip as this company has labeled it, which I think means .015 for a size. Is the accurate? And how does the sizing system work?

2. I would like to get a versatile tip that I can use to spray both BM penatrating primer and either Ben or Aura. What size tip would be best for both these applications. Ideally I'd like to keep it to one tip. And will the .015 do the trick?

3. I read about pros having difficulties spraying Aura. Is this something that should not be attempted by an amateur? Is the extender recommened for all weather conditions?

Any advice or feedback is much appreciated! Thanks again. ;D

While, I'm not Vin, and not nearly as experience in spraying- I will say this. Be careful.
You can get yourself into alot of trouble fast with a sprayer.
Do you know how to control overspray?  Paint can really travel in a wind.

multiply the first number times 2 to get the spray fan width.. a 515 has a 10 inch fan width, the last two numbers are the orifice size, the larger the number the larger the orifice.  A 515 is pretty common for spraying latex on walls, ceilings, but way too large for trim. Tips sizes can run from as small as 209 to as large as 625 but the viscosity of the paint and the paint type will often determine the tip size.
The 515 will serve your purpose for large areas, walls and ceilings.

As Brush sez.. cover and mask anything that you do not want painted, an airless rig blows paint in a hurry...  :)

Best Luck,

Thank you all for your very timely replies....they are much appreciated especially now when time is of the essence and deadlines must be made.

Brush Jockey,
No, I don't know how to control overspray. I have never used a sprayer unit before and am hoping you could enlighten me with any advice or tips as to doing this  ???. I plan to take all the neccessary precautions: masking everything as Rmichael said and spraying in as low wind conditions as possible. But as for technique I haven't the slightest idea. I appreciate any advice.

Thanks again.

As a side note I have a question about applying wood putty. Im using elmers wood putty on my cedar siding. So far i have been applying the putty directly to wood then priming over it. I believe someone had mentioned priming before puttying to prevent moisture issues or some such. Which is the best order of operations?

Thanks.
